Repair & Maintenance
Fix it before it locks you out.
Most safe lockouts start as small warning signs: a dial that drags, a handle that sticks, a keypad that needs a second try. I repair the lock, the boltwork, the handle and the hinges, and I service safes so they keep working.
If your safe is acting strange, call me while it still opens.
Warning signs
- The dial feels rough, loose or skips numbers
- The keypad needs several tries or shows errors
- The handle is stiff or loose
- The door is hard to close or the bolts drag
- The safe was dropped, moved or someone tried to force it
How I handle it
Step 1: Describe the symptom
Tell me what changed and when. Small details help me bring the right parts.
Step 2: Inspect
I check the lock, the boltwork, the handle, the hinges and how the door sits.
Step 3: Repair or replace
I fix what can be fixed and replace what can't, and I tell you which is which.
Step 4: Test and tune
I open and close it again and again before I leave.
Safes I work on
- Home safes
- Gun safes
- Fire safes
- Commercial safes & vaults

Questions about Repair & Maintenance
Is it worth repairing an old safe?
Often, yes. A solid safe body lasts a long time, and replacing a lock or fixing the boltwork usually costs far less than a new safe.
When should a safe be serviced?
As soon as it starts to feel different. Don't wait for it to fail. A safe that is opened every day should be checked when the dial, keypad or handle changes.
Can you repair a safe after a break-in attempt?
In many cases, yes. I'll assess the damage and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Do you replace electronic keypads?
Yes. I replace failing keypads and electronic locks, and I can switch you to a mechanical dial if you prefer.
